Brittany contacted DIY Guys looking to transform her existing fireplace wall into a sleek, modern focal point for her living room — complete with built-in storage, media accommodation, and accent lighting — while maintaining balance with the room’s existing architecture and trim.
Design & Planning
Working directly with Brittany, our team walked through several design options centered around:
- A vertical slat feature wall between existing windows
- A floating media cabinet positioned between the TV and fireplace
- Subtle ambient LED backlighting
- Clean lines that respect existing molding and proportions
After sharing ideas and example photos, we refined a design that matched Brittany’s vision and functional needs.

The Build
Once the design was finalized, we scheduled a weekend install. Our team built the wall unit on-site, installed LED lighting, mounted the media cabinet and TV, and completed all finish carpentry with meticulous attention to detail.
From measurement to final touch-ups, the team ensured every element was square, level, and coordinated with the existing room features.
Final Result
Brittany’s fireplace wall now functions as a cohesive media center and architectural feature. The vertical slats add texture and dimension, while the lighting and cabinetry strike a perfect balance of form and function.
