Meet Tim – The Original DIY Guy

Turning a Passion Into a Purpose

Hi, I’m Tim—and I’ll admit it… I’m addicted to home improvement projects.

It all started a little over eight years ago when I moved into my current home. Since then, there hasn’t been a single stretch of time where I wasn’t working on something. Whether it’s a renovation, a remodel, or a small upgrade, I always have a project in progress. In fact, friends and family love to ask my wife, “What’s Tim working on now?”

But here’s the twist: I don’t start projects and forget about them like the old stereotype—we all know that guy. I finish them quickly… so I can start the next one. When I can’t sleep at night, I’m not counting sheep—I’m mentally redesigning the garage, building a dream patio, or imagining what I’d do with an awkward closet.

Even when I walk into someone else’s home for the first time, my mind goes into overdrive:
“Could that wall come out?”
“A built-in would be perfect right there.”
“Why not a wet bar in that corner?”

That’s when it hit me. I wasn’t just doing projects—I was living for them. So I started asking myself: how can I turn this passion into something bigger? Something that helps others?

From Hobby to Business: The Birth of DIY GUYS

Over the years, I’ve worked with my fair share of contractors—some great, others… not so much. And what always stood out to me was how many of them seemed to discourage homeowner involvement. It was either too risky, too simple to justify the price, or just too inconvenient for them.

But I’ve always felt the opposite. I wanted to understand the process. I wanted to learn. And I knew I wasn’t the only one.

That’s the core idea behind DIY GUYS:

Instead of pushing homeowners out of the way, we bring them in.

Whether you’re curious, hands-on, or just looking to learn—we’ll walk you through the process, share our tools, lend our expertise, and help you develop the skills to take ownership of your own home improvement journey.

Teaming Up With Matt

I shared the idea with my friend Matt, who immediately saw the potential. He knew plenty of people in our area who wanted to take on DIY projects—but had no idea where to start. So we teamed up and launched DIY GUYS to fill that exact gap.
